Are You Ready for the Revolution?

Slacktivist isn't so sure.

Uh oh.

I linked to that one too. I feel sick.

what is troubling is your belief that replacing the current lying bastards with your own preferred lying bastards will somehow make everything , or even some things, better.

I would settle for a lying bastard who didn't think he was above the law or the Constitution.

I would settle for lying bastards I was confident had been fairly elected.

Lying bastards all. Yes. But lying bastards who haven't been given run of the country for the last 6 years like a kid in a candy shop.

Some things will be better. At least if we can get a fair election they will.

I absolutely agree with the commenter on Slacktivist that said that Bush doesn't see a parallel between himself and Saddam. That would take way too much self-awareness. The difference between himself and Saddam is that he's *right* and above the law. See, he's for freedom. Saddam hates our freedom. Obviously they're different. :-P

Agreed; I was with Slacktivist insofar as seeing how Saddam Hussein and George Bush view themselves in relation to their power, but I did balk a bit at thinking Bush would be "nervous" about a Saddam death-sentence. I don't think Bush thinks he has anything in common with Saddam; that's why they're so much alike.

But the part of this post that upset me was the premonition that Rove's high spirits were more than just a public smiley face. Fortunately for New York voters, we have clunky old manual machines, and we don't really have any contested races. It will be interesting to see what happens to Hevesi, our state Comptroller who used taxpayer money to chauffeur his wife around. Everyone withdrew their endorsements, and if he wins, Governor Pataki or Governor-elect Spitzer will probably ask him to resign. But I think he'll lose.

Today, Election Day, is my birthday. I'm going to tell you a little secret. If I end up blowing out any candles today, this will be my wish: That everyone running for public office will spontaneously drop dead before midnight tonight. Now, of course, I've told you what I was wishing for, so it won't come true, but it wasn't going to come true anyway, so who really cares? ;-)
