Things that Make You Go "Hmmm"

This morning I was out of milk, both at home (so, no cereal) and at work (so, no coffee) so I decided I'd go ahead and stop at Starbucks and get coffee and a treat to take with me.

Behind me in line was a very handsome, very well-dressed guy about my age who pulled up in a BMW. He ordered a "non-fat, one-pump peppermint latte."

I could not decide whether that was the gayest drink in the history of the world or something so disgusting that only a straight man could love it. Thoughts?

As someone who doesn't go to Starbucks, I'm unfamiliar with the term "one-pump." I assume there's a machine that dispenses peppermint syrup, and the customer wants the barista to pump the dispenser only once into his latte.

But I have a dirty mind, so I first thought of something else.

(And "pump the dispenser into his latte" sounds dirty enough as it is.)

I'm no expert, but this seems to fall under things that are gayer than gay. Which means straight. I think.

Neel: Yeah, I think I agree with you, this is why I felt confused.

The only way I could answer would be to look at his nails.

As a straight woman (i.e., primarily concerned with straight men), I'd say the ONLY way that guy isn't gay is if he is So Freaking Powerful (/Confident) he's off the charts and doesn't feel any need to 'establish' himself socially. In which case, I wouldn't expect him to be ordering himself a drink at Starbucks ... except MAYBE here in super-casual PDX ...

Or perhaps he was buying the drink for a female companion (eg., someone at his office). Did he take a sip on the way out?

Otherwise, I vote gayest drink in the history of the world ;).

Now wait a minute, is it gayer than a non-fat, decaf, skim-milk peppermint mocha with no whip. Now that's a MANS drink. Of course, some of you will say, what did you just pay $4 for? I have no idea. Brownish water that tastes pepperminty sans health guilt.

I think your gentleman is straight.

i really loved the starbucks frapaccino drinks that were test marketed two yrs ago or so.
it was mocha-mint, and just heavenly when drunk ice cold.

i dont know if that makes me partly gay, or not.
but you wouldnt want to see my fingernails.

Hmmm... I think the fact that it's a latte makes it gay. If it were a mocha, that would be different (because it's similar to melting a candy cane in hot chocolate as a kid, and could be considered a simple act of nostalgia)
