GORE/FEINGOLD 2008

So I just finished watching Al Gore on The Daily Show.

Wouldn't it be nice to have a President who can speak in complete sentences? Wouldn't it be nice to have a President who's in touch with reality? Wouldn't it be nice to have a President who believes that "moral obligations" mean saving the planet, not demonizing gay people?

I know he says he has no plans to run, but let's hope he either changes his mind or he's just keeping a low profile.

(And, oh, wouldn't we love to see Al TROUNCE Hillary in a primary? Yes, indeed, that would be hot.)

Speaking of hot, the shoulders on Al Gore??? I never noticed before.

Gore/Feingold: unstoppable.

Discuss.

Andy, in addition to shoulders, sternomastoids.

Personally I find Al Gore a bit on the insane-space-ranger side. In fact I found the South Park portrayal to be rather accurate, but I . Shortly after the 2000 election he had several episodes of nuttiness which a less sympathetic media would have exploited. But, he's altruistic and passionate, so I can see where some appeal may lie.

I have to warn you: you may be picking Gore out of spite over the 2000 election, wanting to take back what is yours- DON'T DO IT! If you're going to support someone as President, it must be on the basis of their current ability to carry out the task at hand. I could empathize with the belief that he would make a good peacetime President, but we are at war. As Vice President, Gore did not prove himself capable of military administration.

As a conservative, I hope to God that he is nominated for the presidency, because I know for a fact that he will lose, but I'm telling you as a friend and an American Andy, you're not doing the Democratic Party any good by nominating Gore.

So how exactly has Bush shown himself capable of leading the military? He's f****'d this country up is what he's done.

Don't make this about Bush! Why do liberals make everthing about Bush! I will dismiss that comment in the interest of relavence, but just so you know I could, if I wanted to, correct that assertion of the president.

WHY DO REPUBLICANS MAKE EVERYTHING ABOUT CLINTON? At least someone wanted to blow him.

LC, you made it about the war - an expensive, tragic, needless war that has utterly failed in its objective of stopping terrorism.

Since Bush is the so called War President, you making it about the war makes it about Bush.

Anyway, maybe someone like McCain might be a better military leader than Gore, but what about, for example, that Nazi Frist? How has he proven himself to be an apt commander in chief?

Hey now, Bill Frist is a fine American, recognizing that homosexuals and burning flags are threats to this nation on par with the Saddam/al-Qaeda alliance. This country needs more heart surgeons who can diagnose (if incorrectly) the extent of a vegetative person's brain damage from a few seconds of videotape. Oh, did I mention he was under investigation by the SEC?

Gore would indeed be an effective leader (even in times of "war," LC). I thought his SNL parody of himself (and the country) was pretty funny as well.

Whoever the Dems choose, I hope they will be true to themselves and their issues, and not rely on the "anyone but a corrupt Republican" mentality they seem to have adopted for campaigns.xbwcysh

Giuliani is not going to be on the ticket. I can pretty much guarantee that. Robert, don't you want to put an end to the cronyism of the Bush Administration? Giuliani surrounds himself with all manner of sketchy characters (Bernie Kerik comes glaringly to mind.) He's petty and vindictive. And of course, there's the not-small matter that the kingmakers in the GOP, as I've said thousands of times now, will not EVER pull it together for a divorced, philandering, pro-gay, pro-choice Catholic. How is a pro-choice candidate ever going to be on the GOP Presidential ticket?!?!?!? Plus, I'm sure his character can't hold up to that level of scrutiny. There are scandal skeletons in that man's closet, for certain.

And, Xbwcysh, to you, too, Lesh!

oops. I was wondering why I had to enter the nonsense password twice.

Curious...just which ticket is Giuliani going to run on? Too left for the right; too right for the left.

I think Giuliani could have a shot if he ran as a Democrat, actually, but he's courting the right-wingers.

Al Gore has really transformed his public image. I really despised him, even through the 2000 elections, because he was so bad at making his points, and allow the Bush camp to portray him as a dishonest lifetime politician.

But there is a peaceful and earnestness about Gore now, that I really admire -- even if it is simply the result of more honest portrayals of him in the media. I almost think it would be a shame for him to re-enter politics because of that. Though, if he did, he would have my vote.

I disagree with you on the Feingold addition to the ticket. While I admire his voice, he allows his message to be overpowered by other Democrats (namely Hillary and Obama) - so I don't think he would be an effective campaigner (he and Gore together would be a campaign disaster, though a very good public policy-based government).

Oh, I was talking about the Rudy Giuliani who was my mayor for 8 years. I guess I don't know this other guy you're rooting for.

My, so many assumptions when LC makes a post- I don't recall reading Clinton or Bush's name in his post.

In my not so humble opnion, I think Algore is a tool. I was recently accused, on another blog by an oversensitive soccer mom, of not protecting the environment and being against the notion of global warming because I think Algore is a tool. Talk about reading into things.

My gut feeling is that this is just a publicity stunt for Gore's agenda. I have yet to read any compelling evidence as to the doomsday scenarios of the global warming problem.

I don't want to turn this into a splinter topic from Andy's original post of the sex appeal of Algore but I wanted to throw that tidbit in there. As a military member I take exception to how the military is run from people who glean thier information off a tv or LCD monitor instead of having an opinion based on experiences. Not to say you do not have military experience, FG, just lumping that all together.

Fuck, who knows how anyone will be as president. I really liked Obama until he made the asinine comment that it was the media's responibility to oust classified government programs.

The funny thing about that whole, silly, global warming phenomenon, is that those who do not believe it is happening [despite studies showing the world is the hottest it has been in 4,000 years and these people still seem to think that there will be no environmental effects from that] is that we will spend years proving that global warming will have devastating effects on our planet, to the point where devastating effects will already be happening to our planet.

I don't get the logic of "let's wait and see" because the same people making that argument, are the ones who make the argument that we must ban gay marriage because of the possible-maybe it could DESTROY SOCIETY.

Seems like a slightly inconsistent political viewpoint to me.

Is a fondness for trees and grass, and homes that aren't washed away by what used to be small creeks REALLY just a "liberal" thing?

Travis and TK, you guys are riots!

My favorite thing about global warming thus far was like two months ago when some bigwig columnist ... maybe George Will? someone "conservative" ... wrote a nationally syndicated piece about how stupid the global warming freakout is because thirty years ago there was a group of scientists warning us that we were headed for a big Chill, possibly a new ice age, and given the evidence since then they were completely bonkers ...

Locally, one of those 30 years ago scientists wrote us a Letter to the Editor, explaining that their worry had been based on broad astronomical cycles: something or other about the Earth's tilt and I think some sun cycles, but mostly that we are in the early part of an especially-far-away-from-the-sun couple thousand years period, and reasonably we should expect the world to be losing a degree or two, glaciers to be growing, etc.

If he wasn't blowing smoke, then we've REALLY fucked up: we've actually gained 2 or 3 (instead of 1.4) degrees over "natural." But then, our SUVs and powerplants might be saving us from an Ice Age ... we've accidentally built ourselves a weather dome! Sci fi comes true! Now if only we could figure out how to adjust that windspeed "down" ...

On Al Gore, I have to agree with Andy on the shoulders ... and the complete sentences ... and the priorities. But the shoulders, though: it's too bad he hunched so much in 2000. Maybe if he didn't try so hard to look "engaged" ... well, actually, given how the race went, that might have done him better all around, and Kerry too. Looking engaged maybe communicated "I care what you think," while looking confident (GWB) communicated "I can get the job done."

OK, now I am all depressed. : P.

Hey, I want all of you guys and gals out there to have a happy fourth of July if I'm not able to get back in this week- I'll be on vacation.

I've been thinking much the same way as you, Andy, when it comes to Al Gore. He's really loosened up and shown himself to be quite the statesman. I applaud his environmental efforts, and can't wait to see "An Incovenient Truth." I think it would also be see how he'd shine as president, out from under the Clinton shadow. We'll just have to see if he runs or not. If he does, I think he could win.

Heck, if Nixon could do it, why not?

Oh, to Mr. Leshdogg, if Rudy is nominated for the Republican Party, I will officially rub out my Republican Registration. He was a great mayor, but it is when people run the country like they would run a city that the federal government overstretches its bounds. Keep the mayors out of federal politics please!

Would anyone be remotely considering Rudy if 9/11 hadn't happened? He stood up and did his job as Mayor and he made a pretty good speach--and all of a sudden he's a national hero. That doesn't make him presidential material. Is there anyone looking good as a candidate from either party? Seriously? I think the pickin's are pretty slim.
