On a totally unrelated LOTR sideline, I updated my photoblog after I saw on Fox that NYC has had one of the 10 worst snowstorms in a century. Oh, Andy, by the way-

Honolulu:
Today
Partly cloudy with isolated showers. Highs 75 to 80. Southwest winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 20 percent.

Tonight
Partly cloudy with isolated showers. Lows 63 to 68. Southwest winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 20 percent.

Well, as usual, FOX News exaggerates. I first moved to New York in the winter of 1993-94, during which we had SEVENTEEN snowstorms which were considered "major" by whatever standard they use. I would venture that the majority of them were a lot worse than what we saw this weekend; last Christmas Day there was a significantly greater snowfall; and then let's not forget the Blizzard of '96, when the city ran out of perishable foods.

It was 10 degrees this morning. There was a signal fire over the weekend in lower Manhattan, which affected subway service in Brooklyn and on Manhattan's west side. My commute this morning was unadulterated hell.
