Now When the Phone Rings, It's Definitely Mom

I finally signed up at the National Do Not Call Registry. Does it actually work?

Alas, now I won't get to use my good lines like, "Well, I used to subscribe to the New York Post, but my bird died." Or, "This is his husband." Or, "No, I'm just the poolboy, I'm not allowed to make account decisions for him."

We signed up to be on the Do Not Call list, and it really worked.... for a while (perhaps 9 months to a year?).

But now we get phone calls from places selling vacation packages. And they call ALL. THE. TIME.

Not sure what happened there.

And ever since I donated $ to the DNC last year, my name and # has somehow made it to everyone's phone and address roll. I also started getting political survey calls after that, as well.

You just have to be careful, I guess.

A poolboy in a flat? How very bling!

I think it works just a lil bit. (50 Cent reference)

Aha! So now you don't have to answer the phone at all. I like my phone which "announces the caller" (albeit with a slight Japanese accent...)so I only have to answer about one out of ten calls.

I signed up a long time ago and it worked. I've heard that it 'expires' - you have to re-sign up every year - which would explain Matthew's experience...

Supposedly it's good for 5 years, according to the website.
