I'll Stick to Cats

Bad news for "sky is falling" defenders of the traditional family: a new study shows teens growing up with same-sex parents end up no differently than teens with heterosexual parents. In a study to be published in the upcoming November edition of Child Development, researchers found that based on "measures of psychosocial well-being, school functioning, and romantic relationships and behaviors, the teens with same-sex parents were as well adjusted as their peers with opposite-sex parents."

I work with homeless teens every week and have done so for over six years. The greater percentage of these teens are homosexual. Most of these teens come from homes with a dysfunctional dad or a dysfunctional mom or both. As the parent of a gay child I am truly convinced that a "good" parent simply loves their child. It doesn't matter if they are gay, straight, have purple hair, wear studded clothes, or act out in weird ways. When you become a parent you have the greatest responsibility ever given to anyone. If you don't try to do your best, you have made a big mistake. You are missing out on one of the most special relationships you will ever have in your life. My child happens to be the author of this blog and I could not possibly be any more proud of a child than I am of Andy. For anyone who has a gay child or gay relative, or gay friends parenting an adopted child -- they need your unconditional support. You will be rewarded ten-fold.
