I'm Not a Jew, But I Play One on TV

One of the many unique aspects of life in New York City is that someone, somewhere is always filming a tv show or a movie. The most ubiquitous is, by far, Law & Order. Go to any show on or off Broadway, and a guaranteed majority of the actors will list an L&O appearance in their credits.

So this morning the street in front of my apartment has been blocked off for filming, and giant dressing room trailers and catering vans lined the curbs. A group of Hasidic Jews was standing right in front of my building watching the proceedings.

As I passed them on my way to the subway, I thought...my goodness, some of those guys are really cute under all that hair, they would clean up nice. I turned around to get a second, final look, just as one guy was removing his hat.

The curls were attached to the hat.

I think Jews in general are cute :) very very cute....

Are Jews allowed to have sex with men as per their religion? (sorry this is just a crass demonstration of me not knowing enough!)

It depends on the variety. I once saw this handy breakdown written somewhere...I think actually it was in an A&F catalogue, if memory serves.

Jewish Positions on Homosexuality
Orthodox: an unspeakable abomination
Conservative: something that happened at camp
Reform: Not that there's anything wrong with that...

Richie--in short, Jews follow the Old Testament. Then came the New Testament which Christians follow--along with the Old Testament, actually. (Note: this is a very short version of things.) The basic rules are the same, so if you follow them strictly then gay sex is a no-no. Of course, if you follow them strictly, working on the Sabbath is punishable by death.

Anyhow, I'm a Jew, and I'm gay. My partner and I have been together almost ten years.

In other words, there are gay Jews, Christians, Muslims, Buddhists, etc. What each of us does is a personal decision, based on our personal makeup, concerns, wants, etc.

Since we're talking about hot religious men, can I just say that I've found many Amish men to look absolutely delectable?

It feels weird acknowledging that, but damn. Put it on a plate and sop it with a biscuit!

I'm sure that most Amish faiths rather frown on such things. Oh well.

Take care.

Thanks for the enlightenment Jess and Andy... and sorry if I am so ignorant... I don't follow religion very closely so I am absolutely at a loss here.

I have found Jew gay guys absolutely hot and I have sometimes fallen prey to my instincts and shagged them.

That said, I need to learn more about religion and sex. Thanks for starting my journey :) and have everyone a great week!

Um, Richie, didn't you say you have a PhD in environmental studies? And in addition to perfect English and your native Spanish, you also speak Italian, right? Hardly ignorant.

Remind me to tell you all my yarmulke story. But not here.

Thanks Andy :)

Yes I do have the PhD and all those things. But I still sometimes feel like there's so much I still need to know!

"Funny, she doesn't look Druish."

Sorry, that's an old joke from Spaceballs, and I'm a dork.

My good friend today asked me if I thought her hot Jewish boyfriend could be gay because of sexual issues they have in their relationship. I felt guilty when my mind glazed and dreamt of the thought of it.
