Having recently become a fan of Battlestar Galactica, I have developed a healthy suspicion of machines. I am worried that my iPod is thinking for itself.
I always listen to the thing in shuffle mode. Every time you upload new music or edit a playlist it resets. Now, I have 3,264 songs in my iPod, so the probability of hearing a song more than once in a short space of time is low. Yet certain songs come up with disturbing frequency, such as Pet Shop Boys' "DJ Culture," Maria Callas' first recording of the Lucia mad scene, and "Der Musensohn" sung by Bryn Terfel. Even though I've only got one Ute Lemper CD in the mix, I get an average of two Lemper songs a day.
Also my iPod apparently does not like Dolly Parton at all.
Should I be concerned?

yes you should be very scared, you have fucking awful taste in music bud
Why do people do that? You have a nice light-hearted post, and someone has to comment just to be insulting.
I also love the way this person didn't have the integrity to leave identifying information. Hey, anonymous, if you're going to insult someone, at least be adult enough to stand behind the comment!
I don't know why they do that, Jess, but that anonymous post was stupid, very very stupid.
On the note of your post, Andy -- I find it that I usually listen to at least one Pet Shop Boys song in my mix, so there must be some statistical correlation there :-)
i think that we have time before ipods morph into humanoids that are visually indistinguishable from humans (save females who are in the midst of orgasms). but that is probably what edward james olmos thought.

My ipod has a mind of it's own also. In shuffle mode, it always starts with the exact same song.... every time...
windows media player always plays the same songs, even though it is on random. I think there might just be something wrong with the way music players choose random numbers.
Actually after tonight's episode you can see where the real danger is ... just like the Borg ... when the organic mixes with the synthetic you can have some terrible, terrible business ...
Oh, the other repeater is the Seguidilla from "Carmen," as sung by Leontyne Price.
Okay, so other people are noticing this phenomenon? Yipes. So maybe I'm not just paranoid. Everyone just be careful with your iPods.
In a vaguely related vein, how awesome was tonight's episode? The end shocked the hell out of me. How will I live until July?
You should only be afraid if you iPod is named Sharon and is apparently pregnant.
