My Day

No, I am not making any of this up.

My current boss is out of town on business.

I arranged for a rental car to be delivered to his hotel this morning. It was late, so he was late to his first meeting.

He got lost on the way to the second meeting.

The third guy claimed he didn't know he was coming, even though I confirmed it yesterday.

American Airlines canceled his flight home.

At a previous job, I booked travel for several people (the writers and photographers who would get to go to really cool places/really cool people we were featuring in the magazine). Just as reassurance: It's not you (it's not bad karma or anything like that). It's booking travel. It was the story of my life. I actually have a little statue - a giraffe that I hold dear - that the managing editor brought back for me, from Africa, for all my hard work/thwarted smooth-travel efforts.

I hope that he isn't going to blame you for the fact that the rental car showed up late, and all the subsequent delays...

As long as you confirmed the third meeting in writing, there's no way he can blame you for the way his day went. Unless he seriously thinks you have any control over flight cancellation, the punctuality of rental car deliveries and his own sense of navigation.

Mind you, bosses can be pretty unreasonable when they set their minds to it.
